Hi, I’m Allen, a software engineer and engineering manager based in Taiwan. I build systems, and I’m increasingly interested in what makes them hold together. Some are technical systems made of hardware and software. Others involve teams, decisions, attention, and the less predictable parts of ordinary life. At work, I’m an engineer and a manager. At home, I’m a husband and a father of two. These roles constantly reshape how I think about responsibility, patience, and what deserves my attention.
Experience
I began my career as a Product Engineer in manufacturing, where ideas eventually had to survive production schedules, hardware constraints, and real-world conditions. I later moved into R&D and software engineering. Today, I lead a team working on edge computing platforms, spanning BSP, operating systems, AI applications, and system integration. Much of my work happens between layers that appear separate on a diagram but must function as one product in practice. This has given me a practical bias: I appreciate ambitious ideas, but I trust them more after they have encountered reality. My role now is a mixture of building and managing. I spend more time creating direction, improving how people work together, and helping a team grow, while remaining close to the technical details that shape the product. Many tasks can be delegated; judgment about what truly matters usually cannot.
Interests
I’m interested in software, AI, engineering management, product development, and the broader question of how technology changes the way we think and work. I also read about Stoic philosophy, decision-making, craftsmanship, personal knowledge systems, and the management of attention. I often return to the Stoic distinction between what is within our control and what is not—not because it is difficult to understand, but because it is difficult to practise. I do not read philosophy to escape ordinary life. I read it to return with a slightly clearer mind. This site is my working notebook. I write to examine ideas before they harden into opinions—sometimes through technical analysis, sometimes through books and articles, and sometimes through questions that do not yet have a finished answer. Much of what I know began with something another person shared online. Writing here is my way of continuing that exchange.
